Dan,
Great observations and info. Thanks!

A further issue I have discovered with Locations is specific to the
interaction between the BirdLog app and the eBird site.
When you start a list in BirdLog the GPS function of your mobile device
allows you to select an existing Hotspot or Personal Location from a map.

However, if you submit a list for Hotspot you have not previously
reported on to eBird it gets flagged as a type 'P' (personal) Location.
This stops your observations from showing up in the Hotspot Explorer also.
This is a known bug in BirdLog.

To correct this on the eBird website,
1. go to "Manage Locations", select the "Hotspot" that is flagged as
personal ('P' )under Type and select Edit
2. On the resulting map, select "Move", and drag the marker slightly
away from its location
3. Now select "Merge". Nearby Hotspots will be presented and you can now
select the real "Hotspot" you originally thought you were reporting the
list under.

A pain, I know, but until they provide a fix to this BirdLog issue, it
is the only way to correct it.
