So Ron what do you feel is the most effective action to take next? The author, Shannon Tompkins, obviously does not know the difference between the snipe, a game bird, and the dowitcher, a federally-protected shorebird. I know he is not alone in this innocent yet serious mistake. Have had a friend show me his haul of dowitchers he thought were snipe. I am and will remain pro-hunting as I think we share in the love of the outdoors and preservation of marsh habitats. But this one deserves a prominent retraction and brings into question whether hunting should be allowed on species the average hunter cannot separate from similar protected species. An online version of the article complete with the picture is linked below. http://www.chron.com/default/article/Jokes-aside-snipe-often-a-forgotten-gem-5187769.php#comments Ron Weeks Lake Jackson Edit your Freelists account settings for TEXBIRDS at //www.freelists.org/list/texbirds Reposting of traffic from TEXBIRDS is prohibited without seeking permission from the List Owner Edit your Freelists account settings for TEXBIRDS at //www.freelists.org/list/texbirds Reposting of traffic from TEXBIRDS is prohibited without seeking permission from the List Owner
