It has been a very busy week and it took a while to get a couple of
photographs reviewed - but I am getting caught up on trip reports.
On Saturday, 1 October 2016, I spent a good chunk of the day in Hockley
County. Highlights included 40 Blue-winged Teals at the Roundup Playa, 152
Blue-winged Teals south of Smyer, 12 Blue-winged Teals southwest of Pep, 2
Cinnamon Teals south of Smyer, 4 Ring-necked Ducks along FM 26463 Scaled
Quails south of Smyer, 1 Ring-necked Pheasant at the Smyer Playa, *1 Horned
Grebe* southwest of Pep, 4 Black-necked Stilts at the Roundup Playa, 17
American Avocets at the Roundup Playa, 14 American Avocets at the Smyer
Playa, 1 American Avocet southwest of Pep, 2 Long-billed Curlews at the
Roundup Playa, 2 Wilson's Snipes southwest of Pep, 1 Spotted Sandpiper at
the Roundup Playa, 2 Greater Yellowlegs along FM 2646, 3 Greater Yellowlegs

at Roundup Playa, and *2 male Bronzed Cowbirds* at Roundup Playa.
I have now seen 198 species of birds in Hockley County - just need two more
to meet my goal of 200 - one wonders what they will be?
The Gray Catbird was #206 for my eBird list for Hockley County, tying the
206 listed in eBird on my Crosby County list - my second highest county on
eBird, based on 2012-2016 entries.
The Horned Grebe was #207 for my eBird list for Hockley County, based on
2012 through 2016 entries, putting Crosby County - for the time being - in
third place.
That will all change as I get more of my data from 1998 through 2012
entered into eBird.
