Greetings All:
I spent a couple of hours looking for (successfully thanks to Melissa Roach
and Tom Johnson) the Common Crane in Terry County and then a few hours
roaming about Hockley County.
Terry County highlights: 2 Blue-winged Teals northeast of Brownfield, 1
Ring-necked Pheasant northeast of Brownfield, 1 Common Crane (XC, AH, TJ,
JL, RL, MR) southeast of Brownfield, 62 Long-billed Curlews southeast of
Brownfield, 1 Short-eared Owl southeast of Brownfield, 1 Prairie Falcon
southeast of Brownfield, 1 American Pipit northeast of Brownfield, 7
Lapland Longspurs east of Brownfield, 12 McCown's Longspurs southeast of
Brownfield, and 1 Pyrrhuloxia east of Brownfield.
Hockley County highlights: 1 GADWALL x NORTHERN SHOVELER hybrid at the
Smyer Playa, 2 Cinnamon Teals at the Bison Road Playa, 4 Canvasbacks at the
Bison Road Playa, 2 American Pipits at the Bison Road Playa, and 6
Chestnut-collared Longspurs at the Bison Road Playa.
I have submitted photographs of the GADWALL x NORTHERN SHOVELER hybrid to
eBird. If anybody wants to comment on them, please take a look and do so.
The only Lubbock County highlight of the day: 3 Purple Martins flying over
my neighborhood (yes, Rich, visible from my yard - WooHoo!) in the late
afternoon.
Anthony 'Fat Tony' Hewetson, Lubbock
