Greetings All:
I spent two hour below Lake Six (the long walk) this morning, sighting 34
species of bird including 1 Turkey Vulture, 1 Broad-winged Hawk, 1
Ferruginous Hawk, 1 Common Poorwill, 1 Eastern Phoebe, 1 Marsh Wren, 1
Hermit Thrush, 4 Orange-crowned Warblers, 1 Nashville Warbler, 1
MacGillivray's Warbler, 1 Yellow-rumped Warbler, 1 Wilson's Warbler, 2
Field Sparrows, and 1 White-crowned Sparrow as highlights.
I then spent an hour and a half at Lake Six, noting 29 species of bird
including 6 Cackling Geese, 11 Canada Geese, 1 Great Egret, 2 Snowy Egrets,
1 Green Heron, 2 Ospreys, 2 Forster's Terns, 1 Marsh Wren, 2 Blue-gray
Gnatcatchers, 5 Orange-crowned Warblers, 3 Nashville Warblers, 4
Yellow-rumped Warblers, and 1 Lincoln's Sparrow as highlights.
An hour at MacKenzie Park kicked out 20 species of bird including 2
Blue-winged Teals, 3 Green-winged Teals, 1 Great Egret, 3 Snowy Egrets, 3
White-face Ibises, 8 Wilson's Snipes, 1 Eastern Phoebe, and 1 Hermit Thrush
as highlights.
Forty-five minutes at Aztlan Park produced 17 species of bird including 1
Snowy Egret, 1 Green Heron, 1 Osprey, 2 Eastern Phoebes, 1 House Wren, 1
female Common Yellowthroat, 2 Yellow-rumped Warblers, 2 Chipping Sparrows,
and 1 female Blue Grosbeak.
Forty-five minutes at the Erskine Street Marshland kicked out 15 species of
bird including 2 Snowy Egrets, 1 Osprey, 2 Wilson's Snipes, 2 Burrowing
Owls, 1 Eastern Phoebe, and 1 Yellow-rumped Warbler.
All in all, from 8:30 to 2:30, a pretty good day of birding along the
Canyon Lakes.
