Greetings All:
I visited Clapp Park this evening (5:00 to 7:00) and the place was
absolutely nuts with Pumpkin Trail visitors. I did my best to avoid folk
but did not let them deter me from chasing birds from patch to patch:)
Highlights included 2 American Wigeons, 2 Blue-winged Teals, 4 Northern
Shovelers, 1 Northern Pintail, 4 Green-winged Teals, 1 Osprey, 2 Greater
Yellowlegs, 2 Wilson's Snipes, 1 Marsh Wren, 2 Hermit Thrushes, 5
Orange-crowned Warblers, 1 Nashville Warbler, 1 male Common Yellowthroat, 1
Wilson's Warbler, 2 Spotted Towhees, 5 Field Sparrows, 2 Lincoln's
Sparrows, and 3 male Yellow-headed Blackbirds.
The hoped for American Crows did not materialize. Instead, my crow watch
became a robin count: during the last half hour of my visit I watched the
skies and tallied a little over 600 American Robins - all headed south.
The Yellow-headed Blackbirds were the only true highlight of the crow watch
but it was nice to hear, then see the two yellowlegs come in for a landing.
Field Sparrow, happily enough, was new to my park list for the year,
bringing me up to 176 species of bird at Clapp Park in 2015.
