Greetings All:
I ran the Plains II Breeding Bird Survey yesterday morning. This BBS
starts a bit north of Plains: the first nine stops are in Yoakum County as
the route runs generally north; the latter forty-one stops are in Cochran
County with the route ending up at a point west of Lehman. A full report
will follow - the highlights should suffice for now.
There were no highlights from Lubbock, Hockley, Terry, or Yoakum County on
the way to the first point.
Highlights from the Yoakum County portion of the route: 1, 1, 1, and 2
Scaled Quails.
Highlights from the Cochran County portion of the route: 3, 16, 4, 1, 1, 4,
1, 1, 2, 6, 2, 1, 1, 7, 7. and 2 Scaled Quails at various points along the
route; 1 Verdin near FM 1585 and CR 105; 2 Verdins near CR 105 x CR 210.
Highlights on the way to Hockley County - the subject of a separate report:
2 Scaled Quails just west of Lehman; 3 Scaled Quails just east of Lehman.
Scaled Quails, which almost vanished from the region during the drought,
seem to be staging a bit of a comeback.
