Greetings All: Yesterday, 15 September 2012, Rick Kostecke and I spent roughly five hours in Motley County visiting the Matador Cemetery and Sewage Ponds as well as various hot patches around Roaring Springs. Highlights from the stretch of Highway 70 west of Matador: 1 Eastern Phoebe, 1 Say's Phoebe, 1 Western Scrub Jay (AH only), 4 Clay-colored Sparrows, 3 Vesper Sparrows, and 1 Savannah Sparrow. Highlights from the East Mound Cemetery/Matador Sewage Ponds included: 1 American Avocet, 1 Spotted Sandpiper (AH only), 1 Wilson's Phalarope, 1 female Black-chinned Hummingbird, 2 Northern Rough-winged Swallows, 1 Cave Swallow, 2 Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, 2 Wilson's Warblers, 8 Clay-colored Sparrows, 1 female Western Tanager, 1 female Painted Bunting (AH only), and 2 female and 3 male Bullock's Orioles. Highlights from Ballard Creek included 1 Olive-sided Flycatcher, 2 House Wrens, 4 Eastern Bluebirds, 1 Nashville Warbler (AH only), 1 MacGillivray's Warbler, 3 Yellow Warblers, 3 Wilson's Warblers, 3 Clay-colored Sparrows, and 1 Dickcissel. Highlights from patches in/around Roaring Springs: 1 Cooper's Hawk, 1 Common Nighthawk (RK only), 1 Red-headed Woodpecker (AH only), 1 Olive-sided Flycatcher, 1 Western Wood Pewee, 1 House Wren, 1 Orange-crowned Warbler, 2 Yellow Warblers, 3 Wilson's Warblers, 1 Clay-colored Sparrow, 1 female Blue Grosbeak, and 1 female Orchard Oriole.
