I spent most of yesterday birding a very damp Crosby County.
While not a highlight, some Common Nighthawk behavior was noteworthy. We
know that the species is relatively common in the area but, generally,
don't see many by day. Due to light to heavy rains coating Crosby County
yesterday morning, nighthawks were no able to roost, in cover, on the
ground and I set a personal record for number of nighthawks in a day in my
region, tallying 103 Common Nighthawks: every single one perched, some
looking miserably damp, on utility lines.

It was one of my better days, species-wise, in Crosby County - despite
surprisingly poor shorebird diversity - and I racked up 112 species in
roughly eight hours.
