Greetings All: On Sunday, 7 September 2014, I spent 2.5 hours at Clapp Park (1.5 of them with Ross Rickett) in Lubbock - as the rains slowly tapered off and birds started popping up. Ross left just before the first few beams of sun appeared and missed out on the 'crashing of the smartweed' and the counting of the sparrows and buntings. All in all, 56 species were noted including 1 Yellow-crowned Night Heron (both), 1 Virginia Rail (heard by RR, seen by AH), 1 Cooper's Hawk (AH), 1 Broad-winged Hawk (AH), 8 Greater Yellowlegs (both - barely), 1 Peregrine Falcon (both), 1 Olive-sided Flycatcher (both), 4 Western Wood Pewees (both) , 4 Least Flycatchers (both), 2 Willow Flycatchers (AH), 1 Great Crested Flycatcher (both), 1 House Wren (AH), 1 Ovenbird (both), 2 Black-and-white Warblers (Both), 1 Orange-crowned Warbler (AH), 3 Common Yellowthroats (one by both, two more by AH), 11 Yellow Warblers (most by both), 1 adult female Black-throated Green Warbler (AH), 19 Wilson's Warblers (most by both), 1 Spotted Towhee (both), 1 Clay-colored Sparrow (both), 1 Brewer's Sparrow (both), 2 Lincoln's Sparrows (AH), 1 female Western Tanager (AH), 1 Indigo Bunting (AH), 34 Painted Buntings (included for numbers), 3 male Bronzed Cowbirds (AH), and 1 female American Goldfinch (AH).
