Yesterday, at Lion's Park in Refugio, I observed a Hermit Thrush at close
range, and noticed that it kept puffing out its throat. Then I heard a
very, very soft Hermit Thrush song. It kept its bill closed the whole time
so I thought I was hearing a distant bird.
But I continued to watch, and shot a video that captured it singing.
There is a very loud cardinal and traffic in the background, and you can
hear a Northern Parula, too. If you watch the video, the bird sings about
half way through, and then listen for the very distant Hermit Thrush. This
bird listens intently, and is just beginning to respond with the
introductory long note when the video ends.
Anyway I thought it was kind of cool.
