Yesterday(05/17), I birded Hazel Bazemore County Park.
I tallied 5 Warbler species, including American Redstart, Canada, and
Magnolia. One of the Magnolia Warblers(saw a total of 3), was an impeccably
marked male - a real stunner...
Also observed: Olive-sided Flycatcher; Eastern Wood-Pewee; Eastern and Western
Kingbirds; Yellow-billed Cuckoo; Least Tern; Green Kingfisher; a male
Black-chinned Hummingbird, guarding the awesome Butterfly garden adjacent to
the HawkWatch platform; and a group of 30 migrating Franklin's Gulls.
This has been an amazing Spring for Franklin's Gull movements - I have counted
more than 8,000 of these way-cool Gulls, as they make their way home.
On 05/16 at Polly Wog Ponds: 10 Warbler species, including Bay-breasted,
Blackburnian, Chestnut-sided, Black-throated Green, and numerous Yellows.
Three Vireo species: Philadelphia, Red-eyed, and Blue-headed.
Also; Buff-bellied Hummingbird; at least 8 Eastern Wood- Pewees; numerous
Empids; and 4 migrating Broad-winged Hawks, a very nice late Spring surprise.
Seen in our yard this week(in NW Corpus Christi): Ovenbird(05/17) - (nice spot
Libby!); adult male Baltimore Oriole(05/16) - feeding on our backyard
Hummingbird feeder; and we still have a good number of Ruby-throated
Hummingbirds using our feeders, as of today(05/18).
Good Birding to All...
