Hello all,
On Tuesday, 25 April, I had a few exciting finds in Lynn County. The most
surprising was a pair of Harris's Hawks at the CR EE wetlands. They seemed
settled in and were observed copulating on multiple occasions. Also at this
location were 2 singing Bell's Vireos, at least one singing Blue Grosbeak
and a glut of Bullock's Orioles and Spizella sparrows, both Chipping and
Clay-colored. Virginia Rails likely breed here with 2-3 vocal birds,
including a singing male before the wind picked up. The Marsh Wrens appear
to be gone leading me to believe that they are only winter residents. They
seem to have been replaced by several Common Yellowthroats.
âAt the smaller playa on CR 20, between CR X and Y, was a basic American
Golden-Plover and a group of 4 Semipalmated Plovers. âThere was also a
displaying Yellow-breasted Chat in the salt cedar thicket adjacent to the
playa.
