I just wanted to update after talking to Sandy today.
She wanted to reiterate their place is not open to the
public, only paying guests. Folks, please don't call
asking for an exception (some apparently have - sheesh!).
Dropping my name won't help, and could get you kicked
out of 3 states to the north and west.
The owners are not birders and will not likely know if
'the bird' is still around most of the time unless a
birder staying there has seen and reported it. It is
easy to spend a half-hour and not see or hear it. About
an hour + before dark seems good. From just before to
just after noonish as well. I haven't been there early
in a.m. which would of course seem to be best.
There is good news in that Sandy said *on weekdays*
she may have some rooms available for one night, but not
on weekends. Again, $125 per night - 2 night minimum -
except sometimes during the week you can get one night.

*As I understand Texas community law, out in the
country, within two miles up or down river, even if
on opposite sides, is neighbors. ;)

The feeders are not visible from any public area
including roadside parking. They can't have and
expressly do not desire folks with scopes or
cameras pointing at the paying guests' rooms,
which would be the situation. Please don't be the
one that "just for a couple minutes" invades the
paying customer's privacy. That kind of person
is the one they are spending this kind of money
to be away from. ;)
The GVE has been there the last three days at least,
besides since May 19. But was MIA whilst the feeders
were dry. It seems pretty ginchy and shy. I did get
a pic of the undertail only, and a snippet of call on
audio tape.
They do have some open rooms now, but later in the
month and most of July they are booked. Please do
not just show up and disturb the business and its
customers.
