Despite keeping an eye out during the day the Green Violet-ear was only sighted about 6:30 this evening and only briefly. I got home about 6 before deciding to take a look with this brief success. Marci looked during the day. I got it in my binoculars perched about 25 feet up in the understory briefly before ascending into the upper levels. I was asked if it was still coming to my feeders. This is a natural assumption but in fact it has been in the yard and never to the feeders that are up. It is feeding in Tegaguaje trees that emerge in the upper canopy perhaps. They have flowers though the birds at this level may more likely be eating bugs. The tropical hummingbirds I have had in the yard do not come to feeders as a rule. The Turks Cap are a favorite. I did move a feeder to a back clearing which may have been a mistake as the resident Buff-bellied Hummingbirds took up territory and might chase things off. Can call Marci 956 245 7192 in the am if you wanted to try for it. If you come stay on trails. keep quiet and be cautious. Do not trod on plants, off trails etc. Small area so easy to scare things away. -- Terry W Fuller San Benito/Harlingen Terrywfuller@xxxxxxxxx Edit your Freelists account settings for TEXBIRDS at //www.freelists.org/list/texbirds Reposting of traffic from TEXBIRDS is prohibited without seeking permission from the List Owner
