According to Tom Langschied, this was the first confirmed sighting for the
ranch. He had a possible sighting on Santa Gertrudis several years ago.
I was told privately about another sighting in Kenedy County many years ago.

Subject: [texbirds] Gray Hawk at Norias division of King Ranch
A group of us discovered a Gray Hawk on the Norias division of the King
Ranch this morning while looking for Ferruginous Pygmy-owls. We did find
an owl later on.
It was a pretty good day for raptors: Several Crested Caracaras, American
Kestrels, Red-tailed Hawks, and Harris's Hawks plus Cooper's,
Sharp-shinned, 2 White-tailed Hawks (one on nest), Barn Owl, and a heard
only Red-shouldered Hawk.
A Sprague's Pipit kept hiding from us, but all eventually had good looks.
