Hello all,
I birded Govt Canyon SNA (NW San Antonio) for a little while this morning.
Started out just moving slowly along the road near the self-pay station /
guard shack. Before I even made it past the self-pay station, I had already
seen:
Greater Roadrunner
Cooper's Hawk
Dickcissel
Lark Sparrow
Field Sparrow
Bewick's Wren
Barn Swallow
Chimney Swift
Yellow Warbler
Painted Bunting
White-eyed Vireo
Orchard Oriole
N. Mockingbird
Mourning Dove
Yellow-billed Cuckoo
N. Cardinal
Scissor-tailed Flycatcher
I then continued on and birded the roads and paved trails around the VC and
out to the frontcountry trailhead. Added the following:
Yellow-breasted Chat (2 pairs)
Least Flycatcher
Eastern Phoebe
Carolina Chickadee
Black-crested Titmouse
Carolina Wren
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
Crested Caracara
Cave Swallow
Common Ground-dove
Black-chinned Hummingbird
Brown-headed Cowbird
possible Common Raven - less than 1 second fly-by view
The mockingbirds were mimicking Blue Jays, among other things. I did see a
Blue Jay near the VC a few weeks ago. Enjoy the day!
V/R,
Nate Nye
