[texbirds] Gonzales County 10/28/12 - Red-breasted Nuthatches

On 28 October, Veena Mohan and I birded several sites in Gonzales County. On
the way to Gonzales County, we had 2 Sandhill Cranes fly over Hwy 183 between
Lockhart and Luling. In Guadalupe County, we stopped briefly at Salt Lake.
Salt Lake Rd then becomes CR266 in Gonzales County which then runs into CR250
which comes out at PR11/FM2091. I have found this stretch of road to be pretty
birdy. Highlights this visit were 2 Red-breasted Nuthatches. We then stopped
at Lake Wood before looping down to the town of Gonzales and then west back
towards Austin. Highlights as we looped west were a Pyrrhuloxia on a county
road (not sure of the number) just south of Gonzales, 85 Crested Caracaras in
the freshly cut fields along FM 97 just west of its intersection with FM108,
and a Barred Owl at the public boat ramp at the end of Spur 95. Full lists for
