I went to Goose Island State Park today with modest expectations and hoping to
find a few late migrants. There were just a few, but quality prevailed over
quantity. Best bird, again, was a Golden-winged Warbler, along with American
Redstart (2), Yellow Warbler (2), Magnolia Warbler (1, a male), White-eyed
Vireo (2), and Philadelphia Vireo (1). I have seen more Golden-winged Warblers
this Spring than I have seen in 10 years of Texas birding. They have been
regular and steady over the past three weeks, Hopefully it is a sign of a
uccessful migration and a step towards recovery of this threatened species. .Â
At the beginning of the day I found two Mississippi Kites in Riverside Park in
Victoria. They have been there a week, and perhaps are a nesting pair. The
birds had long slender wings, no black shoulder markings and black tails.Â
