Hi all:

Into all lives a little rain must fall, or, for hawk-counters a few truly
boring days must be counted. Thanks to Winnie, though, for making it a very
enjoyable boring count with some excellent and wide-ranging bird discussion!

Anti-bird of the Day: The warbler that I had convinced myself was a fly-by
Palm Warbler upon perusal of my pix on the back of my camera when on the tower,
but that became an obvious Myrtle when I got the pix onto my laptop.

Bird of the Day: The warbler that flew past the tower twice with a party of
four Eastern Bluebirds that I thought was a Pine from the poor and brief
naked-eye and through-the-viewfinder looks that I got that turned into an
obvious male Pine Warbler when I got the pix onto my laptop.

Ducks flew by again, today, but Winnie and I did not even crack 1000, much less
the 4000+ of yesterday; all ID'ed birds were Lesser Scaup.

Last night, I neglected to mention the two adultish Lesser Black-backed Gulls
that I photographed from the tower yesterday. Since I'm writing this on my
phone, I'll save additional discussion on them until I can send a message from
my laptop. That will also allow me to post a couple of pix of the beasts and
the odd first-year Herring-type gull accompanying them.

Raptors counted (count conducted by Gulf Coast Bird Observatory):

Northern Harrier 4 (1 ad f, 3 brown)
Sharp-shinned Hawk 4 (1a, 1j, 2u)
Cooper's Hawk 1a
Total 9

The next front is looking juicy (cold and windy), and consensus among the
weather gods seems to be settling on both Monday and Tuesday being good, though
with Monday having the more northerly (read, better) winds (and being warmer).
However, we'll see how the forecast changes through the weekend.

Enjoy,

Tony
