Hi Texbirders,
The air was filled with bird song today. There was a perpetual chorus of
Long-billed Thrashers, Olive Sparrows, White-tipped Doves, Altamira Orioles
... the list goes on. Many gave us looks as well. Four White-tailed Hawks
overhead at once was definitely a highlight, especially when two of them
engaged in a dramatic sky dance for several minutes. Two Merlin and our
first Monarch butterfly in a while rounded out the morning.
Guided walks leave from the Visitor Center at 8:30 am every day, through
March 24. HawkWatch begins March 15 and takes place on the levee near the
Visitor Center from 8am-1pm every day of the week for a month. Extra eyes
would be very helpful!
