Family matters called for a trip from Midland to Morton on Thursday, May 15. While at the cemetery we were treated to a large raucous flock of Yellow-headed Blackbirds. The cemetery is well watered and is a green oasis in a desert of drought as is the county park. Highlights at the park were Western and Summer Tanager, Western Wood-Pewee, Yellow Warbler, and Painted Bunting. Numerous Horned Lark and Swainson's Hawk were tallied on the drive from Seminole to Morton and also from Brownfield to O'Donnell. Center pivot irrigation provided the only other green for miles and miles.
