Hello Texbirders,
Last night's full moon spring tide inundated the salt flats making for some
good birding this afternoon. I did some stationary birding from Bird Blind
#1 for close to an hour and was entertained by a nice diversity that
included residents and migrants. Highlights included; *Wilson's Plovers,
American Oystercatcher, Lesser and Greater Yellowlegs, a bathing
Long-billed Curlew, a few Black Tern, and a pair of 1st summer Common
Terns. *The salt flats should hold some good water for the duration of the
week. Bird Walks will be happening almost daily (Mon, Tue, Thur, Fri)
through the summer starting at 9:30am. Join us!
I should also add that early in the morning there's quite an amazing Common
Nighthawk show above the mangroves. I've been noticing more and more of
them each day. There could've been close to 50 of them flying around this
morning. I've noticed a few groups streaming south close to dusk as well.
Maybe they are migrating?

Sandwich Terns, black carpal bar, dark black cap starting right above the
eye and going down to the nape, black primaries but grey secondaries. At
first there was only one, but then a second flew in and landed next to the
other.
