There is indeed a ferruginous hawk on the Katy Prairie but the one I saw was a standard light phase adult, first sighted going southeast between Hebert and Penick, then an hour later I got much closer, longer looks on Morrison near 529. Two other hawks, a harrier and a red tailed, swooped low right next to it as if to encourage it to move along. Obvious difference in size, wing length, "eagle" bill and feathered to the toes. Having decided it flew far enough south, it promptly headed northwest. I wouldn't be surprised if no one finds any color phase of ferruginous for the next couple of days as this species likes to cover a range even hundeds of miles long and then double back to cover the same area. Dipped on roadrunner and short eared owl, will try again evening. Paul Rushing Park had a northern flicker of the red shafted variety, near to the police station, feeding with meadowlarks and brewer's blackbirds nearby. Kickapoo Road had a lone Harris Sparrow with a flock of white crowned. On the way to this road, on Betka, was also a flock of about a dozen lark sparrows perched up on wire.
