Good afternoon birders,
Another wonderful morning of birding Santa Ana. We encountered several
flocks of passerines in the thorn-scrub, one included a Northern Parula.
However, the overhead action heated up in the wide-open spaces above Pintail
Lakes. Even with the low ceilings, hawks flew in lazy circles as if it were a
sunny morning, some so high that none of us could ID as they flew in and out of
the low clouds. We did observe two Sharpies mobbing a larger raptor - could we
be seeing the beginning of migration?
