Hi, all!
I've been using the Canon SX50 Powershot and in general am very pleased with
the results. Pros (over my Canon EOS Rebel w/ 70-300mm zoom and other PAS')
are:
* Lightweight
* Fast shutter response
* 1200mm equivalent zoom allows at least "documentation shots" of
faraway birds
* Closer subjects are nice and sharp
* Easy to adjust exposure for the situation
* Video option is great!
* Gets better results in low-light situations
* Reasonably priced
* Macro is great for bugs
Cons:
* Battery dies around noon :(
* Sometimes wants to focus on the wrong thing
* Very difficult to focus on flying birds
* Low-light birds tend to be rather grainy compared to shots taken
in similar situations by cameras that cost about the same as a nice tropical
trip somewhere. :)
* Viewfinder isn't as bright as an SLR, but trying to use the screen
doesn't work for me
I still take my EOS with me as a backup; I like the fact that I can use
manual focus when I have to, but in general I'm very happy with the
Powershot if you're looking for a budget camera!
