A good place to look for the usual fall migrant empids are sunflower
patches especially if those are in an area where they are still in at least
partially in bloom. Have always found these to be honey holes, plus you can
really do well on a couple of warblers, BLGRs, buntings, Dickcissels,
LEGOs, HOFIs etc.etc. I love finding these patches and watching as they
seed out.....I still think Calhoun Co. Is way up there on this
habitat...killer good stuff when Silver Leaf Sunflower matures out....think
Powderhorn etc..but even in bleak areas, like Travis, Bexar or western
Wiliamson Co. urban areas, there are sunflowers patches
somewhere,,,,,increasingly on disturbed soil...they are worth an unhurried
visit now thru Nov.....u can even get Orioles for reasons I have never
settled on.
