[texbirds] Drought conditions in Houston and Texas

There was a mention of TV the other day and then a note in the Houston
chronicle about the texas drought dating from hurricane Ike.
They offered a little different take on it and under this view, the Houston
area is the driest in the country with a 5 foot rainfall deficit. Of course
dryer areas can be in worse conditions since they have less rainfall to
start building a deficit.

Currently, Houston has an 11 inch deficit after being ahead several inches
back in April. And my house missed at least another 6 inches. A couple of
hot dry days is killing trees and trees continue to die at Smith Point
where recent mosquito breeding rains may slow the tree problems.

In any event, 5 feet is a lot of rain to miss. The article is at
