There was a mention of TV the other day and then a note in the Houston chronicle about the texas drought dating from hurricane Ike. They offered a little different take on it and under this view, the Houston area is the driest in the country with a 5 foot rainfall deficit. Of course dryer areas can be in worse conditions since they have less rainfall to start building a deficit. Currently, Houston has an 11 inch deficit after being ahead several inches back in April. And my house missed at least another 6 inches. A couple of hot dry days is killing trees and trees continue to die at Smith Point where recent mosquito breeding rains may slow the tree problems. In any event, 5 feet is a lot of rain to miss. The article is at http://blog.chron.com/weather/2013/09/from-sea-to-shining-sea-no-region-has-been-drier-since-2008-than-houston/ -- Joseph C.
