It was a beautiful morning for a bird walk at the Lewisville Lake Environmental
Learning area [LLELA] last Saturday morning. We got “quality” not “quantity”
this time. Several birders got life birds even! Highlights were: Summer
Tanager, tons of Indigos and Painted Buntings, Swainson Thrush, Yellow Warbler,
Western & Eastern Kingbirds, Dickcissel, Sora, Little Blue mature and a white
immature, Osprey and the resident Red Tail with a tasty [unknown] meal for it’s
nestlings. A lone Blue -wing Teal and 2 Coots were on the Beaver Pond. And
the Eastern Phoebe nestlings fledged last Sunday and Mom & Dad are busy
building another nest on the next crossbar under the picnic pavilion.
We will have ONE MORE walk for the season, June 10th at 7:30. Check lists are
available at the entrance. Fee is $5 per car. Come and join is and see what
LLELA has to offer….birds, bugs, and beautiful wildflowers!
