Hi all -
I am home for a day after a lot of travel in the past few weeks, and had a
chance to get out in the yard for a bit in the morning. First thing to do was
double the number of hummingbird feeders - the Rubys are in! Erik Brunkhe
(hawk counter at Hazel Bazemore and staying at our house for the fall) saw a
Rufous Hummingbird at the feeder outside the dining room window.

Out in the yard, I spotted a Curve-billed Thrasher up by the back fence, making
it the first one actually "seen" in the yard - the previous records were heard
calling. A few minutes later 20 Fulvous Whistling-Ducks flew over in
formation (seeing them naked-eye as they were coming in, I thought they were
cormorants - D'oh!), and the skies are full of White-winged Doves going in all
directions. No hawks as of 10 am.

About 11:00, I heard the unmistakable squeal of Groove-billed Anis, and sure
enough, there is a small group feeding up in the heavy grasses and tangly stuff
at the north end of the yard. I could not get a good count, but it looked to
be at least 3 or 4 - my first-ever multiple Anis in the yard!

There have been various warbler aerial chips, and one interesting bird calling
in the brush, but I never got on it. A White-eyed Vireo was serenading me, and
stuff like Kiskadees and Couch's Kingbirds are zipping through. I am still
waiting for a Tropical Kingbird to sound off!

Only 9 dayd to the Celebration of Flight at Hazel Bazemore County Park - be
there!!!
