I had started out to locate St. Edward's Park in NW Austin since I'm meeting someone there Sunday and I was not familiar with this park. Made a mistake and went straight across at the Spicewood Springs Rd. & 360 intersection and wound up on Bluffstone Drive. Crossing the bridge just west of 360, I noted a very large black bird on the wire to the right. I stopped just across the bridge and got out with binocular to confirm that it was a Common Raven. It shortly flew down the wash to the north. I turned on Bluffstone Cove to turn around and observed two Common Ravens flying away and over the office or apartment buildings on the left. I presume it's a pair. I am well acquainted with this species, having observed them first in Yellowstone in 1978, often during consulting gigs in Colorado and Wyoming during the early 1980s, and on almost all of more than a dozen trips to Big Bend and Guadalupe Mts. National Parks, in the Davis Mountains multiple times, and occasionally in Central Texas over the years, including one in my area on the 2011 Christmas Count. I subsequently found the park where it was supposed to be on Spicewood Springs Road. If I hadn't made the mistake, I would not have added this species today to my patch list. It brings me to 146 to date.
