?While there evidently birds south and west of the refuge early, there were none most of the day. I arrived at Paul's Lake about 8 and there were no birds. Extensive searching throughout the morning northeast and northwest yielded no cranes on the ground. Paul's Lake between 12-2 had about 10 flocks, but none landed. Around 3 one flock landed, stayed about 10 min and left. Late afternoon searched south and west - no birds on the ground. Paul's Lake at 5- no birds. Now they could have all stayed away because I was there. I have had three unsuccessful searches for this species dating back to the 1980s. So if anyone sees it tomorrow morning, would love a call. The folks that I exchanged phone #s with (except for one) were all leaving. 254-485-7367 Carol Thompson Tarleton State University Stephenville, TX Edit your Freelists account settings for TEXBIRDS at //www.freelists.org/list/texbirds Reposting of traffic from TEXBIRDS is prohibited without seeking permission from the List Owner
