TexBirders, Wow! What a rush yesterday (Saturday August 2nd) when I heard through the "grapevine" that a Collared Plover had shown up at Hargill, Texas. This is only the 2nd USA record. The bird was at a playa lake at the intersection of 1st and Lincoln. My wife and I arrived about 3:15 PM and found Mary Gustafson and Tiffany ???? looking at the bird. After a brief look through Mary's scope, I set up my camera and tripod and started taking photos. We left about 5 PM after shooting about 300 photos. It was very hot and the heat distortion didn't allow me to get photos as good as Dan Jones's, which were taken about 3 hours earlier. Many, many thanks to Dan for finding this bird and getting the word out quickly. My "fuzzy" photos can be seen at: www.otterside.com/fall2014 Enjoy!
