This morning, A group of birders (Chet B., Derek M, the Cookseys, I,  and
several others) saw the N. Jacana west (right) of the raised short paved path
that sticks into 75 Acre lake at Choke Canyon Calliham Unit.
Many of us were also pleased  to see 13 species of ducks (good # of species
for October)
1.      Black-bellied Whistling-Duck
2.      Fulvous Whistling-Duck

3.      Gadwall

4.      American Wigeon

5.      Mottled Duck

6.      Blue-winged Teal

7.      Cinnamon Teal

8.      Northern Shoveler

9.      Northern Pintail

10.  Green-winged Teal

11.  Redhead

12.  Ring-necked Duck

13.  Ruddy Duck

We missed a previously reported 14th duck species (Canvasback).
Also had three falcon species flying around/over the lake (peregrine, merlin,
kestrel)
and larger groups of  Wood Storks (11) circling over the lake seen by many
(previous late date for wood storks in ebird in McMullen County was Oct 24),
Least Grebes  (eleven together--at least 15 overall). and wild turkeys (13)
As usual, Choke Canyon is worth the (long) trip from Houston
