As we speak eBird is revising how Rock Pigeon is handled in eBird. Cornell will differentiate between true wild rock pigeons and feral populations (i.e. all of the Americas). eBird has published an article on this at http://ebird.org/content/ebird/news/rock-pigeon/ in eBird there will be three forms listed: Rock Pigeon (Feral Pigeon) Rock Pigeon (Wild Type) Rock Pigeon The plain Rock Pigeon is an overarching species, think of it as Rock Pigeon sp. Essentially Rock Pigeon in Texas would always be reported as Rock Pigeon (Feral Pigeon) Right now both the overarching anbd feral forms will show in apps like BirdLog. Once all the updates are complete you'll see the overarching form (i,e, "Rock Pigeon") disappear from the filter and the apps. If you submit the overarching form in Texas it should get flagged. This may take a day or two complete, eBird is in the process of updating over a million records. Until then things will go smoother if you start submitting all Rock Pigeons as "Rock Pigeon (Feral Pigeon)" -- David Sarkozi Houston, TX (713) 412-4409 twitter ID dsarkozi Edit your Freelists account settings for TEXBIRDS at //www.freelists.org/list/texbirds Reposting of traffic from TEXBIRDS is prohibited without seeking permission from the List Owner
