TexBirders, Given the good luck I had in the morning on the Santa Gertrudis Div., Barbara Rapstein & I visited the Laureles Division of King Ranch (east of Kingsville and also in Kleberg Co.) for a couple of hours in hopes of finding some Mountain Plovers. Unfortunately the plovers did not cooperate, but we were treated to a distant but nice view of a perched Prairie Falcon. Some of the other birds of particular note were two Burrowing Owls and one Sprague's Pipit. I should clarify for those not familiar with this part of the ranch, the western 1/4 of the Laureles Div. we visited is made up of extensive agricultural fields which doesn't usually generate a large bird list but can produce some nice open country species. Further below is the bird list from our outing. Good birding, Tom Langschied Kingsville, TX Birds found on the Laureles Div., King Ranch - Wednesday, !2/03/14 1. Great Blue Heron 1 2.
