For the first time since 2013, a Buff-bellied Hummingbird has joined our
Ruby-throats here about 3 miles east of Blessing. It showed up
yesterday, May 4, though I may have seen it the day before thinking it
was a Rufous that stayed after over-wintering. It visited one of our
feeders about 10 times. And, I did get a pic though it is dated May 3
due to the camera date being off. According to Brent Ortega, they are
not normally up here as their breeding area only reaches the Guadalupe
River Valley which is about 50 miles southwest of us.
Maybe a mate will join our Buff-bellied hummer. We did have a pair 4 or
5 years ago and thought we saw a juvenile at that time.
