Texbirders, I arrived at the Canyon Lake dam overlook parking lot at noon today to try again for the dam Brown Booby, and was greeted by Phil Rostron who told me the bird was present, but perched on the north side of the intake structure. Seeing that side of the structure requires about a half-mile walk from the overlook across the top of the dam, which is capped by a flat, black-topped road (a bike would be nice there…). So, be aware if you go to look for the bird that you might need to hike a bit on a hot, sun-baked road. Also be aware that the bird might not be on that side of the structure after you walk all that way, if you first chat with Phil Rostron for a while. Fortunately in my case, the bird flew back to the structure while I was out there, landing this time on the south side, which can be seen from the shady overlook. Regards, Paul Sunby Austin
