Greg Cook found a Black-legged Kittiwake at the Villages Marina on Lake Palestine in Smith county this morning. D.D. Currie, Dell Little and I observed the bird later, a little after 9 am. While we were there, it took off and flew high over Lake Palestine out of sight. It was originally hanging around with the flock of Ring-billed Gulls perched on the boat shed roof of the marina. Hopefully it will return. The bird was a juvenile that was starting to lose its black collar, presumably transitioning to first summer plumage.
