Hi, all!
This month's Birder Patrol trip will be to the Brownsville Fisheries and the
famous Dump! We should have some typical Valley stuff at the Fisheries
along with some freshwater wetland things, and then we'll travel eastward on
Alton Gloor Blvd. over to 511 and down to the Dump, where we'll look for
Chihuahuan Ravens, Caracaras, and any odd gulls that may be there ("Vega"
and Thayer's Gull were reported a couple of weeks ago). If we're allowed to
drive up to the north side, we may be able to look into the "wetlands" and
add some ducks or shorebirds. We plan to wrap up on the early side so that
those wishing to go to the Laguna Vista Bird Festival
(http://birdfestnewslv.blogspot.com/) may do so. Some of us may continue on
to Sabal Palm Sanctuary to hunt for that Pacific-slope Flycatcher that some
of us have yet to find. :-P
Meet at the Jack in the Box at US 77 and Ed Carey Drive in Harlingen at 7:00
(Saturday, 2/17). Cost is $5.00 per person, and all proceeds go to the
educational endeavors of the Arroyo Colorado Audubon Society. Please note
that for those wanting to continue to Sabal Palm, there is an additional
entrance fee of $5.00.
