The Rose-throated Becard at Estero Llano Grande State Park is having a rough time. Today, as I watched it try to continue its nest-building today it came under repeated attack by five or six starlings that landed on her nest and drove her off. They repeated the attacks whenever she came back. Later, the Becard became entanged in some nest-building materials and she struggled unsuccessfully to raise the materials to the height of the nest. The absence of a male to help her is taking its toll. It is unknown if there are eggs in the next. Stay tuned. Also at Estero, Lesser Goldfinches were out and calling everywhere. The Bel's Vireo appeared off the deck, and a Forster's Tern, Inca Dove and White-eyed Vireo also turned up.
