Baytown NC: didn't spend much time there but did find a few Least Flyctachers, Baltimore Orioles, a couple of Yellow Warblers, a Wood Stork, several Blue-Gray Gnatcatchers
San Jacinto: I didn't have time to walk the north trail, but out on the point I found 4 White Pelicans, several Wood Storks, 2 heavily molting Black Crown Night Herons, and got some really nice, close looks at a 1st year white morph Reddish Egret ... watched him/her chase a Tricolored Heron from the feeding ground ... but he/she stayed away from the Great Egret which was feeding close by
But this does raise a question I have. Recently someone mentioned there is a difference between sub-adult and juvenile when speaking of terns. I have concluded that in the case of the Reddish Egret which apparently takes at least 2 years to mature, the first year one would speak of it as a juvenile, and in the second year as a sub-adult. My question is, however, when a bird matures in one year, is there a loss in distinction between sub-adult and juvenile?
