I visited Balmorhea Lake this morning and the primary highlight was a juvenile
Pacific Loon. The best part was that it called several times. Highlights
included:

Pacific Loon – 1
Eared Grebe – 35
Western Grebe – 5
Clark’s Grebe – 35
American White Pelican – 9
Great Egret – 1
Snowy Egret – 1
Osprey – 1
Franklin’s Gull – 4
Herring Gull – 4 (all first-winter)
Ring-billed Gull – 50+
Tree Swallow – 16
Cave Swallow – 2
Barn Swallow – 4

There were a few dabbling dicks (mostly Gadwall and American Wigeon) on the
lake and wintering passerines are arriving in good numbers, but nothing
unusual. I place two somewhat distant images of the Pacific Loon along with
two of a (Western) Marsh Wren, and one of an immature male Common Yellowthroat
on my Flickr site for those interested.
