Heidi Trudell and I made it out to Reeves County today, b/c it has been
awhile.

Highlight of Balmorhea Lake were two TRI-COLORED HERON on opposite ends of
the water.
Clark's Grebes numbered in the 40s and there were single digits of Western
Grebes. There remained young birds of both species.
One small flock of Red-winged Blackbirds contained 6 Yellow-headed
Blackbirds.
A single Lark Bunting was seen.
One Vesper and a few Savannah Sparrows were observed.
Two Forster's Terns flew over the lake.
Ducks were represented only with 10 Blue-winged Teal, 3 Northern Shoveler,
and many Mallards.

Balmorhea State Park:
1 juvenile YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON

There was a pleasant number of migrating songbirds in the trees around the
pool and parking lot.
Including 3 Townsend's Warblers, 1 Orange-crowned Warbler, 2 Yellow
Warblers, 1 Warbling Vireo, a pale female Western Tanager..

It was certainly enjoyable to come away with Tri-colored at the lake , and
that young Yellow-crowned at the state park.

With the Townsends's Warblers it is actually beginning to look a little
like fall.
