In Bastrop County, driving on Hwy 71, heading east, just past the Smithville, I turned left on Loop Rd. Loop Rd is difficult to see, it's only on the left side of the road, but it's just past what I think people call Shipp Lake (dried up). A lady had told me that there had been Bald Eagles there years earlier so I looked and there they were. Driving on Loop Rd, after the Hurta ?sp residence on the right (there is a large entrance sign to their residence), the road takes a very sharp left curve and then the eagles are on the right. You'll be able to see tall trees and the nest in the distance. I'm estimating less than a quarter mile after the sharp curve and before a little bridge. It's possible there is another nest to the left of the larger one but I'm not sure about that one. http://www.flickr.com/photos/ritaclements/8550792837/in/photostream/, excuse the pictures. I'm still practicing with Flicker so I've put various things out there. The whole road is a nice birding spot, very few cars if any. I'm pretty sure it was Brush who had mentioned the road before and it's likely someone has even noted the Bald Eagles but I've been checking Texbirds for quite a while now and I hadn't seen anything about these Bald Eagles.
