spent a couple hours this morning at Ash Lake (end of Tri-city road) in Harris County. There was a striking 3rd winter Great Black-backed Gull, 4 Thayer's Gulls (one adult and 3 first winters), and one first winter Glaucous Gull. The GBBG was mostly on the Chambers side but occasionally flew to the Harris side. I was able to show the GBBG and Glaucous to Ray Porter when he arrived. Ron Weeks refound the GBBG later in the day. We have been seeing previously a first winter and a second winter GBBG, so this 3rd winter bird means that there have been three different GBBGs in the immediate area this season. Maybe this one came in on the last cold front.
