Greetings All:
On Sunday morning, as I opened the back door to go fill the bird feeders, I
was startled to see a Greater Roadrunner ambling across the yard with a
mouse (most likely one of the House Mice that are rampant in my backyard
this year) in its bill. It hopped atop the fence and took shelter beneath
a mimosa tree that drapes the fence, allowing me to quickly grab my camera
and take a couple of horrible shots through double-paned windows. This is
a first for my yard and if you use google earth to look at my neighborhood
(roughly 34th and Quaker) you will see why. Greater Roadrunner is a
visitor to yards on the outskirts of Lubbock or along the river corridor
through Lubbock - my yard is neither on the periphery of town nor is it
near any sort of natural corridor.
I may not be pulling in any of the typical August additions but at least
the weird stuff is popping in - and this more than makes of for Rich
Kostecke's gosh-darned Pyrrhuloxia:)
