The Sunday afternoon storms were spectacular, although the refuge only recorded 0.64 inches of rain. At the Headquarters building on FM563 north of Anahuac, a group of twenty Broad-winged Hawks were skirting the southern side of the storm along with a few Turkey Vultures. Morning dawned a bit damp and cloudy, with a hint of drizzle in the air. On Skillern Tract, two Yellow-throated Warbler males were seen together, and two male Orchard Orioles gave good views. A Red-eyed Vireo and a female Black and White Warbler were seen on the trail to the Rookery Overlook. Both Green Heron and Least Bittern were also seen from this trail. Forster's Terns were feeding, and a group of three Gull-billed Terns ventured up the bayou. Barn and Tree Swallows were moving and two Chimney Swifts were seen. A Great-crested Flycatcher was along the grassy trail that follows the bayou north. Ruby-throated Hummingbirds were very obvious, feeding on honeysuckle. Small groups of American Golden Plover were moving east, and two Whimbrels also went east. In the afternoon, the Jackson Woodlot on the main refuge was looked at, but there was little activity. Two American Oystercatchers were at Frozen Point, and there were three Red-breasted mergansers offshore. A single male Orchard Oriole was seen on the south side of Shoveler Pond. Scoping the Granberry Tract from the north side of the Shoveler Pond loop, at least one Long-billed Curlew was found. On the road to the bay, a Merlin was perched, holding what looked like a Tree Swallow.
