************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************** **************** **************** I spent 4.5 hr.s visiting habitat on a private property in the N/NW portion of the above county. Pretty much the standard fare when it came to birds with the exception of a Woodcock that I flushed while walking around. I was thinking this might be fairly unusual for there so checked a few resources (BLOT, Lockwood and Ebird) and indeed it is...In fact the only record I saw on Ebird for the county was one from south of Fredericksburg on Jan 11, 2011....I did not spend the time going thru NAB tho...This may well be the western most Woodcock I personally have ever seen...As I said before nothing else unusual though a couple of Bushtits were nice. I seem quite inept at finding Scrub Jays in the eastern Plateau region...I was hoping for one today...They used to be such common birds in the 80's, maybe still are, granted I did not get out and spend time looking and mainly just made a beeline to the property and back home wishing to avoid as much of Austin traffic as possible.....But still seems I used to see them much more frequently flying across the various roads or whatever. That country is filling up with people so fast...I was startled as to how fast as I had not been in this particular area in some time.......Put in lots of asterisks above so maybe Texbirds won't cut off the first line as it always does (tho the notes come out fine on Siler's or whatever it is now) -- Brush Freeman Independent and affiliated Field Biologist 361-655-7641 http://texasnaturenotes.blogspot.com/ Finca Alacranes., Utley,Texas The greatest musician of all time is mother nature.
