[texbirds] 40 Minutes Before Sunrise

This is a special time before daybreak where it is one of the best times to 
observe select species:
 

owls, rails, bitterns, night-herons, woodcock, quail and likely a few more.

 

Sadly, quail are difficult to find in many localities.  One of the easiest ways 
to find covies during winter is to listen in their habitat 40 minutes before 
daylight.  Most covies will call at that time before songbirds in the area 
begin their dawn chorus.

 

Christmas Bird Count season is nearly here.
